Silvertooth Fahey Farm was built in 1948 and was the home of Leigh and Jane Fahey who raised Saddlebred horses and were the proud owners of many champions.

A Self-Care Boarding Facility
APG Stables are located at Bldg. E5286 in the Edgewood Area of APG. Amenities are shared by all and equine owners are required to provide all feed, bedding, turnout, grooming, mucking stalls and proper daily care for their horses.

Who May Apply
The Stables are for eligible patrons; this includes Active Duty, Retired Military, National Guard, Reserve, DoD Civilian, NAF Civilian, AAFES Civilian, Retired Civilian, or Full Time APG Contractors (Family and MWR Patron Eligibility). The patron must be the titled owner of the horse. Patrons must provide proof of eligibility annually.
MWR does not allow stallions, broodmares, foals, draft horses and miniature horses. Download the Standing Operating Procedures (SOP) for Boarding Horses.

Monthly Rent: $110 - Includes: one (1) stable stall, assignment of one (1) pasture, one (1) tack locker, one (1) bedding storage area, and one (1) hay storage area.

- All payments are due on the 1st of the month.
- If you opt to set up automatic billing, we will need the last 4 digits on the card you would like to keep on file and the expiration date.
- Once notified on the approval of the application the $220 deposit and a $20 non-refundable quarantine fee is due. After the required quarantine period the first monthly fees for the rented storage are due.

Required veterinarian documents to board include: Proof of Ownership, Bill of Sale (must be in applicant’s name). All incoming horses are required to undergo a 14-day quarantine in a holding pen that is located approximately one mile from the facility.

All incoming boarders must provide documentation of a negative Coggins test (Equine Infectious Anemia Laboratory Test) within the last 30 days and proof of immunizations administered by a licensed veterinarian as listed below:
Rabies: annually
Tetanus: annually
Rhinopneumonitis: annually
Equine Influenza: annually
Potomac Horse Fever: annually
West Nile: twice annually
Equine Eastern and Western Encephalomyelitis: annually
Last Worming Date (No longer than 6 months). Health Certificate from accredited veterinarian (Not older than 2 weeks).
Aerial View: Former Fort Hoyle Stables & Riding Hall - 1930s
Fort Hoyle was established in 1922 and continued to exist until 1940. It was a field artillery installation and in those days artillery was pulled by horses (mules, while stronger, became uncooperative under fire). Fort Hoyle was ultimately considered redundant and eventually disbanded with the property returning to Edgewood Arsenal. This explains why there were two separate headquarters buildings, two separate officer and enlisted housing areas in what later became one installation.

World War II marked a turning point: horses no longer had a major role on the battlefield. Horses were used in World War II on a smaller scale and recently used in Afghanistan. Horses continued to have a large role for recreation within the U.S. Army. The Edgewood Area of Aberdeen Proving Ground (APG) hosts the current APG equestrian facility (E5286, that was built in 1943). Many years ago, APG had an equestrian facility in Aberdeen on the edge of what is now the Enhanced Use Leasing Area.

Historical evidence of horses at Edgewood can be found at the Ft. Hoyle Gym, now Bldg. E4210, which was originally built as an indoor horse riding area. Prior to construction of the Advanced Chemistry Laboratory at the south end of Wiede Army Airfield, an archaeological investigation located many horseshoes, suggesting intensive use of that area by horses in the past.
